Working out whether that person can write a program for you takes different evidence: the questions they ask before selling you anything, the credentials they can document, the written terms of the service.<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Social media visibility certifies an editorial skill and says nothing about methodological competence.<\/li>\n<li>A professional collects your training and injury history, the time you actually have, and verifiable goals before proposing any plan.<\/li>\n<li>In Italy, credentials run along three tracks: federation qualifications, sport science degrees, private certifications. Only the first two appear in public registers you can check.<\/li>\n<li>Read the service like a contract: revisions included, response times, who actually replies, how many athletes they coach at once.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>A profile selling remote coaching is easier to judge after the first message than before. Before, you get public numbers, well-shot interval videos, carousels of threshold paces. After, you get what that person asks about you, and that&#8217;s where the professional separates from the one selling templates.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"why-follower-counts-say-nothing-about-competence\">Why Follower Counts Say Nothing About Competence<\/h2>\n<p>Algorithms reward posting frequency, a vertical format that holds up, the cut of a video in its first two seconds. Real skills, all of them \u2014 they belong to the craft of making content. The number next to the name doesn&#8217;t measure methodological competence; it measures editorial consistency.<\/p>\n<p>Social media rewards content that works for everyone. An individual program runs the other way, built from constraints that apply to one person. The two skills can coexist, though neither proves the other. Public metrics have already rewritten <a href=\"https:\/\/runlovers.it\/en\/2026\/unplugged-running-strava-motivation\/\">the way we measure our own running<\/a>, and the follower count applies the same logic to the people teaching it.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"the-questions-a-professional-asks-before-starting\">The Questions a Professional Asks Before Starting<\/h2>\n<p>The first thing a serious coach asks for is history: how many miles you&#8217;ve run over the last three months and the last two years, how often, with what interruptions. Then injuries: which ones, when, how they were treated. An Achilles niggle from eighteen months ago changes the first four weeks, and anyone who doesn&#8217;t ask is writing for a generic body.<\/p>\n<p>The second question is about the time you actually have: the days you can get out, the windows inside those days, the constraints that repeat every week. A six-session plan handed to someone who can manage four produces three weeks of guilt and a fourth of quitting.<\/p>\n<p>Then goals, and the test is whether they can be verified. &#8220;Getting better&#8221; stays a wish until it has a number attached. A time over a distance, a date, an initial test that sets your paces \u2014 that&#8217;s material you can build on. <a href=\"https:\/\/runlovers.it\/en\/2026\/10k-test-half-marathon-pace-plan\/\">Deriving paces from a test rather than from a target time<\/a> is a good signal: anyone working that way accepts being contradicted by the numbers.<\/p>\n<p>One question almost nobody asks: what happens if the plan doesn&#8217;t work. A professional tells you in advance which criteria will trigger a change and after how many sessions they step in. A generic plan fits you the way a jacket pulled off the rack in your size fits: on paper it&#8217;s yours, then the shoulders pull and the sleeves run long. What counts is whether someone is willing to take it in.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"credentials-pathways-and-certifications\">Credentials, Pathways, and Certifications<\/h2>\n<p>In Italy, the pathways that lead to writing training programs run along three parallel tracks. The first is federal: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fidal.it\/content\/Regolamento-e-formazione-dei-tecnici\/54009\">the Italian Athletics Federation structures its coaching qualifications across three levels<\/a> \u2014 Istruttore, Allenatore, and Allenatore Specialista, ascending from instructor to specialist coach. The advantage is verifiability: there&#8217;s a <a href=\"https:\/\/albotecnici.fidal.it\/\">public register of coaches available online<\/a>, updated in real time, where a name either appears with its level or doesn&#8217;t appear at all.<\/p>\n<p>The second track is academic. The three-year degree in movement and sport sciences (class L-22) and the master&#8217;s in sport science and technique (class LM-68) carry legal standing, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gazzettaufficiale.it\/eli\/id\/2021\/03\/18\/21G00043\/sg\">legislative decree 36 of 2021<\/a> used them as the basis for recognizing the roles of chinesiologo di base and chinesiologo sportivo, the general and sport kinesiologist. They certify solid grounding in physiology and biomechanics, which is a different thing from experience in the field.<\/p>\n<p>The third track, private certifications, is the crowded one: courses running anywhere from a weekend to two years, and a name on the certificate that tells you little. Italy&#8217;s Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy maintains a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mimit.gov.it\/it\/mercato-e-consumatori\/professioni-non-organizzate\">list of professional associations<\/a> allowed to issue their members a certificate of service quality, and it specifies that the list is informational and that the certificate isn&#8217;t a requirement to practice. In plain terms: it describes a path, and nobody guarantees its value on your behalf.<\/p>\n<p>On practical experience, four questions cover it: what kind of athletes they work with, over which distances, for how many years, and one case where the plan didn&#8217;t work along with what they changed. The last one is where the answers separate.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"the-service-behind-the-program\">The Service Behind the Program<\/h2>\n<p>The program is the visible part, but what you&#8217;re buying is an ongoing service, and it reads like a contract: how many revisions are included each month, how long a reply takes (in writing, not &#8220;as soon as possible&#8221;), whether the person you chose answers or an assistant does, what happens if the flu stops you for two weeks, how long the commitment runs and how you end it.<\/p>\n<p>Then the question I&#8217;d put first: how many athletes they coach at the same time. The right number shifts with the level of service and how much of it is automated. There&#8217;s only one wrong answer, and it&#8217;s refusing to give a number. Someone handling a hundred and fifty alone is doing editorial work, and it&#8217;s worth asking what you&#8217;re buying: <a href=\"https:\/\/runlovers.it\/en\/2026\/using-artificial-intelligence-create-training-plans-ai\/\">you can generate a training plan yourself<\/a> in a few minutes at no cost. What you pay for is the attention of someone who looks at your data and decides, and attention has a ceiling.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"signals-its-time-to-look-elsewhere\">Signals It&#8217;s Time to Look Elsewhere<\/h2>\n<p>The first is the program that&#8217;s identical for everyone, same volumes and same sessions for different histories. The second is a result promised with a date attached, phrased as a guarantee: between the plan and the finish line sit health, sleep, work, and the weather on race day.<\/p>\n<p>The rest show up after you sign: replies that take days, messages that are obviously automated, a plan that stays the same while you&#8217;re flagging that something isn&#8217;t holding. The last one is about the sale. Pressure to decide now, with expiring discounts and spots running out, sits badly against a service meant to last months. What data do you need from me before you write anything? If the goal alone is enough for them, your selection is over. How many athletes are you coaching right now? What matters is that a number arrives, before which number it turns out to be. If the plan isn&#8217;t holding after three weeks, how do we proceed?
