That last step carries weight here: the biomechanics work behind Alphafly 4 was thorough and extensive.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A marathon is dynamic,&#8221; says Emily Farina, Senior Principal, Running Footwear, at the Nike Sport Research Lab. &#8220;With Alphafly 4, we spent years listening to athletes, studying how fatigue impacts performance and running mechanics\u2026&#8221; The aim, as she describes it, was a shoe that helps athletes feel more confident and capable in the closing stages of the race.<\/p>\n<p>The first real test has already come. Addisu Gobena won the Sydney Marathon in Alphafly 4 and set a course record along the way: &#8220;When the race became difficult, I trusted the work I had done and trusted the shoe beneath me.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s the latest chapter in a story that has reshaped the modern marathon. The same line of development runs through Eliud Kipchoge&#8217;s sub-two-hour marathon, the late Kelvin Kiptum&#8217;s world record, Sifan Hassan&#8217;s Olympic gold in Paris, Conner Mantz&#8217;s American record, and Jacob Kiplimo&#8217;s half marathon world record.
