A while back we did asked you to tell us your running story: how did you get started, what motivated you, what motivates you to continue? In previous episodes I heard Emanuela<\/a> and Roberto<\/a> ‘s stories directly from their voices. Instead, this week there is a very special and certainly well-known guest: Massimo Ambrosini.<\/em><\/p>\n

Massimo is a glory of Italian soccer and AC Milan, where he played for 17 seasons and where he was captain after Maldini retired in 2009. Vice-champion of Europe in 2000, he missed the European Championships in Portugal and the World Cup in Korea-Japan due to injury.<\/p>\n

But it is not soccer that we are going to talk to him about. As we prepare for the live broadcast we exchange some jokes and anticipate them. He immediately puts us at ease by saying, “Ah, good thing we don’t talk about it because I don’t know anything about it.”<\/p>\n

On video (this installment of Fuorisoglia, like the previous two in the “Start Running” cycle, was in fact recorded during Fuorisoglia Live, our regular live event on Facebook<\/a> e YouTube<\/a>) appears in a blue sports tank top and cap, leaving no doubt about the cheer he is making for the European Football Championship. Yet with him, as mentioned, we will not talk about soccer but about how and why he started running, or why he at least did it seriously, after retiring from professional soccer.<\/p>\n

The answer is understandable but also surprising: after several decades of life devoted to sports and the most strenuous workouts, it is normal for one to relax. Not Massimo Ambrosini who, partly out of fear of losing fitness, decided to change the register of the competitive spirit that has always animated him: no more soccer, welcome running. Now and more than ever the opponent to beat is himself-his timing, physical aches and pains, and age. And as he has always done in his life, Maximus does not discount and always demands to push his limits, trespassing into uncharted territory, both mentally and physically. From running to keep himself in training he soon moves on to 10k and then to half-marathons, because those who have been accustomed to the challenge never stop wanting to surpass themselves and to see how far they can go in everything they do. Running, he tells us, allows him to find a safe and calm mental space and then face daily life with more strength and determination.<\/p>\n

Where is Massimo Ambrosini going now? Well, you’ll just have to find out by listening to this installment of Outrageous! Also because at the end we will also talk a little bit about soccer….<\/p>\n
