I confess<\/span>that I have always followed with interest the evolution of Allbirds, the Australian brand that has been devoted to environmental conservation since its founding. I met him years ago when I heard an interview with one of his founders on a podcast. It stuck with me that the first shoes they made-and which are still in the catalog-were made of wool. And they swore that wool wasn’t all that hot and that it felt good in any season, even better than with synthetic ones.<\/p>\n

Why make shoes out of wool? Because they are sustainable and also more “efficient” and comfortable-in the sense that they make the foot breathe better-than other synthetic models. Allbirds’ mission was definitely interesting: it was as if they wanted to produce something without making noise, bringing respect for nature in the first place.<\/p>\n

A natural evolution, in the sign of nature<\/h3>\n

I also remember that the sneakers they made were so sporty that I wondered when they would make a model intended for running or some sport. Something in this regard they have done: the Tree Dasher have the racer vocation, although their low profile and the amount of compound in the midsole show that their nature is more from short distances, to the eye 10 or maximum 15 kilometers. And finally the real first running shoe from Allbirds has arrived: it’s called Tree Flyers<\/a> and it promises to take you much longer distances.<\/p>\n

A whole new shoe<\/h3>\n

Tree Flyers definitely have the design of a running shoe, but in many ways they are unique in the landscape.
\nEverything in them is designed to be recyclable, recycled or natural, and to have minimal carbon fooprint (9.92kg CO2, and for that matter Allbirds aims relatively soon to be carbon neutral).<\/p>\n

The upper is a plant fiber made from eucalyptus. The SwiftFoam midsole is the lightest and most responsive midsole Allbirds has ever produced, and best of all, it is 48 percent composed of a material made from castor beans. Because yes, many natural materials can have excellent mechanical qualities and be suitable for running shoes.<\/p>\n

But that’s not all: the outer shell that holds the heel in place is made from SwiftFoam processing waste, and then the line is decidedly interesting, starting with the modeling of the “herringbone” intesole, which makes it resemble a Lamborghini. The sole is made of natural rubber.<\/p>\n

Special attention<\/h3>\n

It cannot be said that those at Allbirds do not try to undo the impact of the production and marketing of their products. They do so in the study and use of materials, and they do so above all-at least on paper and until we can try them on-make shoes that have the features and ambitions of a running shoe, but are environmentally friendly.
\nTo show that, in the end, there are other ways to go and that there is an alternative.<\/p>\n
