{"id":85826,"date":"2024-09-25T07:07:06","date_gmt":"2024-09-25T05:07:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/runlovers.it\/2024\/get-out-of-the-comfort-zone-to-really-understand-how-you-are\/"},"modified":"2024-09-25T08:46:58","modified_gmt":"2024-09-25T06:46:58","slug":"get-out-of-the-comfort-zone-to-really-understand-how-you-are","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/runlovers.it\/en\/2024\/get-out-of-the-comfort-zone-to-really-understand-how-you-are\/","title":{"rendered":"Get out of the comfort zone to really understand how you are"},"content":{"rendered":"<hr>\n<div class=\"markdown markdown-main-panel\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<ul class=\"td-arrow-list\">\n<li>\n<h6 id=\"always-running-at-the-same-pace-can-prevent-you-from-understanding-the-state-of-your-bodys-fitness\">Always running at the same pace can prevent you from understanding the state of your body&#8217;s fitness.<\/h6>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h6 id=\"to-understand-what-it-really-is-it-is-appropriate-to-step-out-of-the-comfort-zone-think-of-it-as-a-test-not-a-way-to-improve-yourself-by-pushing-your-limits\">To understand what it really is, it is appropriate to step out of the comfort zone.<br \/>\nThink of it as a test, not a way to improve yourself by pushing your limits. <\/h6>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h6 id=\"small-changes-in-training-can-make-all-the-difference-you-dont-have-to-completely-disrupt-your-routine-just-introduce-small-changes-to-get-a-more-accurate-assessment\">Small changes in training can make all the difference.<br \/>\nYou don&#8217;t have to completely disrupt your routine, just introduce small changes to get a more accurate assessment. <\/h6>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I <span class=\"dropcap dropcap3\">usually<\/span>always run at the same speed.<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s a habit or, and I&#8217;m comfortable with it: every time I go out for a run I put it on autopilot and go.<br \/>\nI don&#8217;t intervals, I don&#8217;t follow particularly intense workouts, and every time I run, I feel like I&#8217;m doing &#8220;pretty good.&#8221;<br \/>\nA few days ago, I thought something that made me reconsider my typical training.<br \/>\nI realized that by always training in the warmth of my comfort zone, I can never really understand what physical state I am in.<br \/>\nThis state of comfort or, at the very least, controlled discomfort makes you somewhat blind to your real state, besides the fact that it has a habit of &#8220;shifting&#8221; in parameters-I bet my current comfort zone is far slower than it was 10 years ago.<br \/>\nIn short, I experience nothing new: no extra effort, no challenge.<br \/>\nAnd without challenges, there is no way to tell if my physical condition is improving, getting worse, or remaining stable.<br \/>\nWhen you run in the comfort zone, you always seem to be &#8220;fit enough.&#8221;         But is this really the case?  <\/p>\n<h3 id=\"the-comfort-zone-is-not-a-limitation-it-is-a-test\">The comfort zone is not a limitation, it is a test<\/h3>\n<p>  This thought led me to reconsider the idea of getting out of the comfort zone.<br \/>\nPeople often talk about doing it to improve performance, to become faster or stronger.<br \/>\nBut I have instead begun to see it differently: not so much as a means to push your limits, but rather as a tool to test them.<br \/>\nWhen you push yourself beyond that safe boundary, especially if you usually train normally quietly, you&#8217;re not doing it to break a personal record, you&#8217;re doing it to see how you&#8217;re doing.<br \/>\nAre you improving from a few months ago?<br \/>\nOr maybe you find that you have remained stable, or even gotten worse?<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s hard to know if you always run at the same pace, over the same distance, with the same feelings.        <\/p>\n<h3 id=\"actual-evidence\">Actual evidence<\/h3>\n<p>  I&#8217;m not talking about doing grueling workouts or disrupting your routine every time.<br \/>\nAll it takes is a small change, a more intense run than usual, a few intervals or a different route.<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s these little tests that give you a real snapshot of your physical state.<br \/>\nI, for example, have one in particular: every year I run in the mountains on a very specific route that allows me to see if, 12 months down the road, I have gotten worse or better.<br \/>\nThe longer the time intervals, the easier it is to notice changes but the suggestion is to consider yourself as the subject of an experiment: you are trying to evaluate your performance and the easiest way is d measure it under stress, even if for a short time.<br \/>\nIn fact, only by getting out of your comfort zone can you find out where you really are in your physical state.<br \/>\nYou don&#8217;t need to do this all the time, but every so often, challenging yourself a little bit is essential to make an honest and accurate assessment.<br \/>\nI still think that training within the comfort zone is enjoyable and reassuring, and I will continue to do so.<br \/>\nHowever, one must also be aware that one risks missing the opportunity to see how we really are.<br \/>\nGetting out of it is not only a way to improve, but to test yourself.<br \/>\nIt is a physical and mental check-up.<br \/>\nAnd sometimes, that&#8217;s what we need: not to go faster or farther, but to understand how we really are.           <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We think of the comfort zone as that threshold to be crossed to improve our performance.<br \/>\nThis is a different way of understanding it <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":85758,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_dont_email_post_to_subs":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_post_was_ever_published":true},"categories":[15211],"tags":[18429,21856],"powerkit_post_featured":[],"class_list":{"0":"post-85826","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-tips","8":"tag-comfort-zone-en","9":"tag-performance-measurement-en"},"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v27.5 (Yoast SEO v27.5) - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-premium-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>Get out of the comfort zone to really understand how you are - Runlovers<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"We think of the comfort zone as that threshold to be crossed to improve our performance.
