Not just in your body, but in the way you relate to food. If a slice of cake used to feel like a sin to atone for with ten extra minutes on the treadmill, now you catch yourself wondering: *\u201cIs what I eat doing something good for me\u2014or is it just enough to get by?\u201d*<\/p>\n<p>And that\u2019s where it gets interesting: you realize food isn\u2019t punishment or reward. It\u2019s part of your training.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, <strong>eating is training<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"the-big-misunderstanding-eat-less-to-improve\">The big misunderstanding: eat less to improve<\/h2>\n<p>The most stubborn myth to let go of is that the less you eat, the fitter you\u2019ll be. It comes from a culture rooted in deprivation\u2014the one that says you have to suffer to be happy (wild, right?), that you have to grit your teeth to get better. It\u2019s the mindset that makes you side-eye a plate of pasta like it\u2019s a betrayal of your willpower.<\/p>\n<p>And yet, if you&#8217;re asking more from your body\u2014whether it\u2019s running, yoga, or lifting\u2014it\u2019s only natural for your body to ask for more fuel. Not less.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"food-is-information\">Food is information<\/h2>\n<p>Every bite you eat sends a message. It tells your body whether it can build, repair, sustain\u2014or if it has to make do with scraps, tapping into reserves and stealing energy from other vital functions.<\/p>\n<p>When you train, your body needs protein to rebuild muscle, carbs to power you, fats (yes, those too!) to function well, and micronutrients to hold it all together. Fasted workouts burn more fat.<\/strong><br \/>\nTrue\u2014kind of. If no sugar is available, your body might burn fat for fuel. But that doesn\u2019t mean it\u2019s the healthiest or most effective option. Especially during intense sessions, you could end up tired, drained, and slow to recover.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. More protein = more muscle.<\/strong><br \/>\nSort of. Protein is essential, but your body can only use so much. The rest? It gets converted into energy or flushed out\u2014not turned into biceps. Balance is your magic word.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Carbs are the enemy.<\/strong><br \/>\nNope. They\u2019re your main energy source when you exercise. Cutting them too drastically can kill your performance\u2014and your mood (bye, serotonin!).<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. After working out, you can eat anything.<\/strong><br \/>\nNot really. The so-called &#8220;metabolic window&#8221; is real, but it\u2019s not a free pass to raid the fridge. What helps? A balanced post-workout meal with protein, complex carbs, and some healthy fats.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"a-practical-and-human-guide\">A practical (and human) guide<\/h2>\n<p>No food scales, no obsessive measuring. Just a few basic principles to help you listen to your body and meet its needs\u2014without turning eating into a battlefield.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Tune in to real hunger.<\/strong><br \/>\nTraining can mess with your hunger signals\u2014sometimes it increases, other times it disappears. Try to tell physical hunger from emotional hunger. How? Wait 10 minutes, sip some water, take a breath. Then decide.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Eat \u201caround\u201d your workout.<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Before<\/em>: a small snack with easy-to-digest carbs (banana, toast with honey, dates).<br \/>\n<em>After<\/em>: a full meal within an hour, when your body\u2019s most receptive.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Mix it up.<\/strong><br \/>\nThere are no magic superfoods or perfect meal plans. But variety? That\u2019s real. More colors on your plate = more nutrients. Like with playlists\u2014if you play the same song on repeat, you\u2019ll burn out fast.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Allow pleasure.<\/strong><br \/>\nFood isn\u2019t just fuel. It\u2019s culture, connection, emotion. If it becomes a fight, you lose. Always. Even if you win the calorie count.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"training-is-also-nourishing\">Training is also nourishing<\/h2>\n<p>The more you move, the more food stops being a problem and starts becoming part of the solution. You don\u2019t need to eat less.
