So you drop the idea.<\/p>\n<p>Shame. Because walking meditation isn\u2019t (just) that thing. It\u2019s more like a way of being there. Of walking without needing to get anywhere. Or rather: of arriving exactly where you already are.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"what-walking-meditation-really-is\">What Walking Meditation Really Is<\/h2>\n<p>Let\u2019s call it by its \u201ccool\u201d name: <em>mindful walking<\/em>. But here\u2019s what it really means: it\u2019s just walking while paying attention to what\u2019s going on\u2014inside and out. But your neighborhood sidewalk works too. Or the beach, the gravel path behind your campsite, the park where people are reading Camilleri on every bench. The key isn\u2019t the place\u2014it\u2019s how you\u2019re in it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Urban<\/strong>: it forces you into a more active presence. Crosswalks, people, smells\u2014everything becomes part of the practice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nature<\/strong>: helps with the quiet and the natural pace. Just don\u2019t drift into daydreams (\u201cthis place is amazing!\u201d is still a thought pulling you out of the moment).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vacation<\/strong>: you\u2019ve got time, you\u2019re more relaxed. Perfect time to try it out.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"common-mistakes-and-how-to-dodge-them\">Common Mistakes (And How to Dodge Them)<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Expecting something<\/strong><br \/>\nNothing\u2019s going to \u201chappen.\u201d And that\u2019s exactly the point. No epiphanies, no visions. Just you, walking.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Doing it out of obligation<\/strong><br \/>\nIf you\u2019re not feeling it, skip it. It shouldn\u2019t feel like a chore.
