I laced up the Scott Pursuit Ride 2<\/a><\/strong> with a good dose of curiosity: I\u2019ve tried their shoes over the past few years and I\u2019ve always noticed a big improvement from model to model. Probably thanks as well to their athlete team, which clearly collaborates on product development.<\/p>\n

Comfort and Responsiveness (Without Overdoing It)<\/h2>\n

On paper, the promises were the kind that might make you raise an eyebrow: a versatile shoe, cushioned yet responsive. Put that way, it sounds like the classic attempt to do everything\u2014and we know that when you try to do everything, you often end up not excelling at anything. And yet, not this time.<\/p>\n

At first glance you get what you expect from Scott: refined materials, precise finishes, that vibe of a shoe designed by people who really know running. The upper\u2019s mesh is ultra-light and super breathable (the kind of shoe you can\u2019t wait to pull on for a May\/June day), and the stitched tongue stays put just as it should, without squeezing. The fit is comfortable. One note: when you really pick up the pace, the foot isn\u2019t held with granite-solid lockdown. But since we\u2019re talking about a daily trainer and not a pure racer, that\u2019s fair.<\/p>\n

The Heart: The New Kinetic Nitrogen Foam<\/h2>\n

The showpiece is the new Kinetic Nitrogen Foam midsole\u2014a name that sounds like it came out of a NASA lab, and in fact the result is an interesting mix of softness and snap. Here Scott has taken a big step forward versus the previous version (which used more traditional foams): now the shoe gives you a sensation I\u2019d call \u201cbalanced.\u201d Not too soft, not too firm, with that energy return that makes you want to push a little more without ever feeling like you\u2019re sinking.<\/p>\n

Helped by the very pronounced rocker (ER3: Evolved Rocker Technology), the heel-to-toe transition is smooth. It\u2019s like heading out with a good groove in your headphones\u2014you naturally fall in step with it. I logged several runs on asphalt, plus a few stretches on compact dirt (typical of our parks), and the feeling was always excellent protection and solid efficiency. Oh, the numbers for the number lovers: 32,5 mm of stack in the rear, 23,5 up front, 9 mm drop. In motion, though, it feels like there\u2019s more cushioning than the millimeters suggest.<\/p>\n

The Outsole: Impressive Grip (Even on Wet Surfaces)<\/h2>\n

Another surprise: the outsole. Scott calls it Flat Traction, and it really works. The footprint is wide, the rubber engages across the whole foot, and grip is excellent even on wet ground. I did a few tests in light rain and on \u201cdirty\u201d asphalt (those situations that usually make you feel uneasy because a slip is always looming) and traction stayed consistently secure.<\/p>\n

On the Run: Flow Guaranteed<\/h2>\n

Here\u2019s the real point: the Pursuit Ride 2 is a shoe that invites you to find your flow<\/strong>. It\u2019s not the fastest, it\u2019s not the most protective, but it pulls off that small miracle of letting you run without overthinking. The midsole pushes, the rocker guides, the overall lightness makes you forget you\u2019re wearing it. It\u2019s the kind of shoe you\u2019ll gladly pick for easy long runs, steady efforts, or a light fartlek. It won\u2019t beat up your legs and, as sometimes happens, it gets even better after a few runs.<\/p>\n

Conclusions: A Premium Outsider<\/h2>\n

The truth? I already figured it would be good\u2014I just didn\u2019t expect it to be this good. I thought I\u2019d keep favoring shoes from more \u201cclassic\u201d brands in my road rotation. And yet the Scott Pursuit Ride 2<\/a><\/strong> is right there, ready to replace them. Why? Because it\u2019s versatile, comfortable, lively, with excellent grip and quality construction. And because (if you feel like it) it tags along nicely when you decide to explore\u2014whether that\u2019s a stretch of dirt or simply a new neighborhood in your city.<\/p>\n

It isn\u2019t perfect, but it\u2019s very well executed. If you\u2019re looking for an all-rounder that lets you stop fussing about the route and just enjoy the run, this is an excellent candidate.<\/p>\n
