Breathing in running

  • 2 minute read

It is said that the first thing you learn to do is to walk. And then you learn to run. True, very true. Come to think of it, however, there is another thing that we do not precisely learn to do but, it is more correct to say, do automatically: breathe.

It’s not that one fine day we figure out how to do it, like as soon as we’re born: no, it’s a natural instinct, even though we were in our mother’s womb seconds before and had no idea what it meant to breathe.

The curious thing is that no one has to explain to us how to do it, and we know how to do it. And then we spend the rest of our lives forgetting how to do it. Yes, because on average we breathe poorly: we do not use our full lung capacity and do not make the right gestures to breathe properly.

It makes one smile to think that we do not know how to do well something that we take for granted that we know how to do, and yet we do.

In this installment of Fuorisoglia we talk specifically about breathing in running but not only: starting with masks (spoiler: there is no obligation to use them when running) we tell you how you should perform breathing-even to relax-and we delve into running technique applied to breathing. Or vice versa.

Ah: of course we also talk about TV series ;)
