I would begin to tell you about this playlist by noting that the best soundtracks are all orchestral. Right, because this is a playlist made up only of soundtracks you most likely already know: there’s the Lord of the Rings one, the Interstellar one, the Superman one, and even the Back to the Future one. There are ET and Rocky and so many others that will cause you a very common phenomenon when you experience a very positive and very powerful feeling: goose bumps.
I have found that goose bumps are an ancestral physiological reaction in the sense that they are one of the most automatic and ancient responses to a dangerous condition: they serve to retain heat inside the body-under the skin-to prepare it for escape or combat. It is a legacy of ancient times during which our ancestors took on an even more menacing appearance to appear larger and more threatening to potential enemies than they actually were.
As time passed and these threats diminished, goose bumps remained in our genetic code as a response to strong emotions. Such as those elicited by particularly emotionally engaging films. And it is precisely in this context that human genius has used and continues to use orchestral music: because no instrument or set of instruments, no matter how amplified, has the sonic power and impact of an orchestra. This is why great soundtracks always use the orchestra: because they are even more powerful and because they better describe certain really “big” emotional states.
Now all you have to do is listen to it and experience again all the emotions you felt the first time you heard this music in the darkness of a movie theater. feeling a little bit Rocky, a little bit Frodo, a little bit Darth Vader and maybe Luke Skywalker, because there is no playlist that doesn’t include the most powerful and famous music ever composed: that of Star Wars by John Williams, of course.
Enjoy your viewing… ehmmm I meant to say: have a good run!
