Who can truly be said to be untethered from technology nowadays? Even without realizing it, you “use” it every day, several times a day, often automatically. Do you want an example? In the morning, an alarm clock tells you it’s time to start your day-there’s a good chance its sound is coming from your cell phone. What do you do right after that? You pick it up (maybe to turn off that obnoxious buzzer) and then you look to see if you have notifications. And if you can resist that temptation, do you want to not at least read the latest news while eating breakfast? You go out and have a business appointment on a street you don’t know: ask your cell phone to help you find it. In those parts you don’t know any place to eat: how to do it? Search on your cell phone for where to eat well nearby. You are only 1/3 of the way through your day and you have already used the technology you carry with you very often. Should I continue? You work out and use your cell phone (not all, but the majority do, I would bet), you want to watch a movie when you get home, and you look it up on one of the streaming platforms you subscribe to.
In the evening, just before you close your eyes, the last thing you see is probably your cell phone screen, because you check to see if the alarm clock is set. And the circle closes, to resume tomorrow morning.

We could discuss at length whether this is good or bad: the fact of the matter is that we have reached a point of no return. Imagining our lives without our cell phones is impossible, and the same goes for all the technology we use every day: smart/spwatches, computers, cars, television, trains, everything. Technology is pervasive rather than invasive.

In this installment we mainly investigate what has improved our lives, starting with the story that concerns us most: that, precisely, of technology applied to sports. Since man developed certain products, he realized that he could also use them in the world of motor activity. From the earliest attempts at digital podometers to the highly sophisticated sportwatches of today, from the 1980s cinematic insights of Back to the Future 2 and self-lacing Nikes, the step has been (relatively) short. In a handful of decades what seemed future became present, normal, almost taken for granted.

Is this good? Is this bad? Is the fact that our cell phone knows everything about us and records many of our parameters something we should be concerned about? In this episode you will find all the answers, and so: enjoy your listening!
