Why should I do triathlon?

Listen to “S02E28: Why should I do Triathlon?” on Spreaker.

There is a very nice passage from “The Art of Running” by Murakami Haruki in which the famous Japanese writer (and runner) describes the disorientation he faced after running a few marathons. What seemed to him to be the pinnacle of physical exertion had posed more questions than given answers.

It is an experience that happens to many marathon runners: having achieved an accomplishment a phase of apathy intervenes, which lies between the difficulty of undertaking new and more daring feats and the consideration that one’s limit has been reached. Stop or move forward? And if you decide to move forward, toward what direction? Run more marathons and hope the adrenaline rush is comparable to the first ones? Mmm.

Murakami resolved by trying triathlons and ultramarathons. Equally beautiful and distressing is the account of his first triathlon: the swimming session (his first, for those who don’t know) made him think he was about to die. For the effort? Not only that: mainly because he hyperventilated, not yet being able to do it well.

Well, yes, in this installment we talk about triathlon, starting from a fixed point: triathlon is not three different sports but a single sport composed of 3 different phases (or sessions), but which should be understood as a single effort.

How to get to practice it? With what equipment? What changes does it bring to your life and the organization of your days? How much does it cost? We tell you everything – but really everything – you wanted to know about triathlon but never dared to ask.
