Running Was Everywhere at Paris Fashion Week

  • 3 minute read

Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2027 crowns running: between Rick Owens and On, running is no longer just a sport — it’s global culture.

  • Paris Fashion Week Men’s SS27 saw a massive presence of technical elements drawn from the running world.
  • Rick Owens returned to collaborate with adidas, sending a modified Adizero Adios Pro Evo and self-ventilating ClimaCool pieces down the runway.
  • Swiss brand On deepened its bond with Post Archive Faction, unveiling the new Cloudboom Volt PAF shoe.
  • Ami Paris reinterpreted the running shoe through its Mirage model, presented in both archival and athletic versions.
  • This crossover proves that technical apparel has now moved well beyond the boundaries of pure physical performance.
  • For buyers, sporting aesthetics now redefine everyday identity, far beyond the kilometers logged during physical training.

What Actually Happened in Paris

Looking at the coverage of Paris Men’s Fashion Week, which wrapped up on June 28 with the Spring/Summer 2027 collections, there’s only one conclusion to draw: sporting aesthetics — and running aesthetics in particular — have become a global standard. Running has moved beyond the boundaries of parks and stepped directly onto the runways of high fashion. It might seem like a minor detail, but runway shows signal trends — and never more so than here, taking note of a hybridization that’s been underway for some time now. One destined to become increasingly pervasive and widespread.

The Collections and Brands Where Running Hit the Runway

In Paris, the integration between pure performance and style was especially visible in Rick Owens’ collection, which rekindled his relationship with adidas after nearly a decade. The designer presented a radical version of the Adizero Adios Pro Evo, modified with an oversized midsole and a waterproof gaiter mounted on the Springblade cushioning system. Alongside the footwear, Owens sent down jackets equipped with ClimaCool technology, fitted with internal mechanical fans designed to lower the athlete’s body temperature.

Swiss brand On continued its journey with the Korean studio Post Archive Faction, unveiling the Cloudboom Volt PAF, a speed-focused shoe with a complex, layered upper.

Ami Paris also explored the theme with the Mirage sneaker, presented in two variants — one archival, one clearly inspired by athletics — pairing contrasting technical materials with classic tailored cuts.

Even Nike explored the trend, showing unusual hybrids that combine the shape of the Air Force 1 with a squared-off toe.

The Difference Between Performance-Wear and Running-Inspired Fashion

Performance-wear is designed with a single objective: supporting the body’s biomechanical efficiency through breathable fabrics, weight reduction, and ground impact management. Running-inspired fashion, by contrast, adopts these codes and technological materials and transfers them into urban, everyday contexts, where the priority shifts from movement efficiency to the expression of a precise cultural identity.

Why This Convergence Is No Longer a Passing Trend

Thinking that all of this is just another passing whim of French designers is a misjudgment. This crossover between the two worlds rests on solid economic foundations and a radical shift in social habits.

Walk down the street and you’ll see people wearing technological foam midsoles under tailored trousers. Clothing itself — especially urban and professional wear — has for some time now been shifting toward technical cuts and fabrics that make it more practical and comfortable. Running aesthetics have become a clear visual language that combines everyday comfort with the need to feel part of a dynamic community. Sport is moving out of the logic of body care to become an integrated element of the everyday wardrobe.

Sportswear/Streetwear Market Numbers From Recent Years

Recent data from leading market analysts shows that the sportswear and technical running footwear segment has posted consistent double-digit growth over the past three years. Consumers in the 30-to-45 age bracket are increasingly choosing specialized footwear for daily use. This shift has pushed traditional sporting goods companies to create dedicated lines or establish ongoing collaborations with outside designers to capture a demand that doesn’t end the moment a run is finished.

What It Means for People Who Buy Running Shoes for More Than Just Training

When you choose a running shoe for contexts beyond sport, you’re benefiting from enormous investments in material development and postural research. The cushioning compounds originally created to protect joints over long distances become an ideal tool for managing your daily routine in the city, turning a purely technical object into a functional element of comfort and style, fully integrated into everyday life.
