Running is boring!

  • 2 minute read

Eventually we confessed to each other, in a recording session of the podcast that was more of a self-help group: running is something that bores us. You have to start thinking about it hours before, you have to change, you have the only prospect that you will struggle and sweat. The only positive thing is the shower that follows. And the metabolic window, that period following physical activity when your body is still voracious and burning everything you eat. Here, these are two positive sides of running. Maybe it’s worth thinking only about those and getting a little motivated to do the same route for the umpteenth time, only the weather changes.

Or is it the attitude we have that makes it seem boring? Our inability to perceive subtle variations or major changes, such as seasonal ones? No come on, running is really boring. Look how long it takes to go this route that you do in 1/10th of the time by car. Better to stay on the couch watching television and eating chips with coke. Yet when you do that you don’t stop thinking about what happened at work or current events. You can’t stop the thoughts or give them direction. You are more restless and irritable. Surely the solution is to take a run? But it’s boring, ouch. Is it really boring? Mmm.
