Improves memory by abandoning routine

  • 2 minute read

  • Breaking the daily routine stimulates the brain, improves memory and long-term cognitive function.
  • Diversifying diet and experimenting with new activities stimulates neuroplasticity, creating new neuronal connections important for memory.
  • Small daily changes improve overall well-being, making you happier and more energetic both mentally and emotionally.

Thefirst step you can take to improve your memory is to abandon your daily routine.
The force of habit is likely to get you trapped in activities that you now repeat automatically. How many actions do you replicate every day driven by force of habit, without even thinking about what you are doing and especially why you are doing it? Having a well-structured routine for organizing a busy day can prove very helpful in optimizing time and energy.
The only one who doesn’t benefit is your mind, which risks becoming lazy from not being stimulated enough.
Changing habits forces your brain to stay active, also improving your memory.

It starts at the table

Diversifying the diet by varying and alternating foods can activate specific areas of the brain related to cognitive processes, improving the ability to reason and make decisions.
Trying new recipes, tasting and introducing new foods can be a small daily challenge that helps keep the brain active as well as stimulate creativity.

Experience

Breaking a routine that you have built over time, perhaps with commitment, effort, and sacrifice can be a challenge that is not easy, especially when you believe you have achieved a certain balance with well-established healthy habits.
Making small changes to your routine can be an opportunity to discover new activities that you had never even considered before.
For example, you might try your hand at some new exercise methods or finally enroll in a photography class to unleash your artistic flair.
These are small changes that keep your mind active and improve your mood.

Because it will be good for you

The benefits you will gain from disrupting your daily routine by making small changes
here and there are mainly three:

  • keep the brain in training and the mind active, stimulating and improving cognitive function in the long run, preserving it as the years go by;
  • Stimulating the brain with new challenges helps improve its neuroplasticity, or the ability to create new neuronal connections, which are critical for proper memory functioning;
  • Breaking the routine helps improve your overall well-being.
    Getting away from daily habits to explore new activities and rituals would make you happier.
    Even the smallest change is enough to have a new experience that will make you happier and more mentally energized.

A valuable ally

While certain daily habits are critical to maintaining physical health, it is equally important to vary your routine to keep your brain active and healthy.
Experimenting with new activities not only improves memory and cognitive function, but can also increase overall well-being, causing you to experience a new stage of happiness.
Change, then, is a valuable ally of your brain. (Via Eating Well)
