When I talk about “balance” in running shoes, I usually mean how responsiveness, weight, and cushioning work together. Some shoes are plush but heavy, while others are responsive yet lack protection. The Under Armour Velociti 4, however, brings a new kind of balance—one between your feet and the road. It’s all about that running experience, which carries real weight, don’t you think?
Doing things their own way
In the world of running shoes, the Velociti 4 is unique. It’s not built with a towering 40–50 mm midsole, a carbon plate, or a paper-thin, super-strong upper. It stands out because it’s different, created in its own way. To understand it, though, you’ll need to lace up and take it for a spin.

Midsole and upper
The Flow system replaces the need for a traditional outsole. This setup merges the sole and midsole into one continuous unit. This design might suggest faster wear or less grip, but the opposite is true: the grip is exceptional, and wear is just as expected. More importantly, the Flow system is balanced so well that you forget you’re even wearing shoes. Need responsiveness? It’s there. Prefer a relaxed pace? No problem.

Simplicity is key here: the Velociti 4 consists of just two parts—the midsole and upper. Speaking of uppers, Under Armour’s designs are impressively versatile, keeping warm in winter and cool in summer. The Velociti 4’s upper is stretchy and snug, but the toe area is tight, so consider sizing up by half or even a full size for comfort.
Let’s go for a run
Here we come to what I mentioned at the beginning, which is how balanced the running experience is. For me there is a very simple criterion for whether a shoe is balanced on the road, and I mentioned it before: you have to forget about it. And the Velociti 4s you forget them, right away. Only to be amazed as you run in them because, despite having a normal stack (certainly lower than that of the now increasingly popular super shoes), they are protective, responsive and above all have a peculiarity that I judge very positively: they have a homogeneous behavior along their entire length.
What I mean with that? Whether you run forefoot (like me) or heel, their response is always the same. Do I put it another way? When you land on them while running, they never feel unloaded and you never feel like they need another little bit of material (i.e., compound). That’s the balance I was talking about: it’s that feeling you get when everything is under control and nothing distracts you from perceiving the road. To the point where you feel them so tight and integrated with your body that you can push on them or not, they follow you anyway.
Who they’re for
While the Velociti 4’s responsiveness and low stack aren’t suited for long runs or heavier runners, they excel in fast, quality workouts and can handle longer distances for trained, average-weight runners. Their responsiveness also makes them ideal for technical training where feeling the road and working the foot matters. If you’re after a shoe that enhances technique, fits like a glove, and feels both responsive and comfortable, the UA Velociti 4 could be what you’re looking for.
You can find the UA Velociti 4 at top running stores or the UA online store, now at a great price: €97.50—marked down from the list price of €130.
