How much time have we wasted on Google to search for a type of training that suits our pace or to calculate our performance, our pace-race? All this information is available on the net but at no site is it aggreed and accompanied by nice graphics.
For iPhone owners (and soon for Android), the problem is solved. A group of Italian runners has created a very low-cost (€ 0.79) application that answers all common questions and needs:
Yes We Run
.
With this app everything is simple, especially the creation of a workout tailored to our abilities. It will be enough to do a 2o’ run to warm up a bit and then run 2 km at the maximum speed allowed (by the highway code and our cardiovascular system), enter the time taken to do the 2,000 meters into the system, and Yes We Run will create a training program tailored to us. We will be able to look it up, email it to ourselves in Excel format, and, in the not-so-distant future, put it directly into the iPhone Calendar. In all honesty, the export feature to .xls did not work as the file produced looks like an html page and not a table (but maybe that is because I use Mac and Numbers.app is not Excel).
Using the application is extremely simple, there is very little data to enter (just the traditional weight/height/age), each feature is well described by a dedicated Help, in short: essential, complete and easily usable information.

Certainly, the young age of the application exposes it to a lack of features that could be useful such as, for example, the ability to customize the number of weekly workouts, the duration of the training program and a system that allows you to calculate times and distances in real-time without having to enter them after the workout is over but, heck, we can’t want everything in life, can we!
Pro
- Very cool graphical interface
- Ease of use
- Creating a much better training plan than many other apps or websites
Against
- Export to Excel to be improved
- Inability to change a training plan
Conclusions
Surely Yes We Run is worth the “crazy” investment of 79 cents; it will help us run better and more consciously. Let me also comment on the skill of the developers, all Italians, who have made with few resources a noteworthy app with a nicer interface than almost any on the market today.
