As of Friday, October 30, registration for Wings For Life 2016 is open. The inspiration again this year remains the same: to raise money for spinal cord injury research. The ambitions are increasingly driven: more runners, more miles, more funds raised. And the city is also changing: after two editions in Verona, it is time for Milan.
Why Wings For Life is unique
Wings For Life is a race that lasts as long as you can make it last. Or rather: you leave, and after half an hour a “catcher car” leaves, proceeding at a maximum of 20 km/h. The harder you run, the later you get caught up and then eliminated (when you are overtaken the reader installed on the catcher car reads your chip and disqualifies you). If you run at 6 min/km in a nutshell around the 11th km you’ve gotten caught.
The first two Italian editions always saw Giorgio Calcaterra triumph, who in 2015 managed to escape the chase for 78.53 km and took 4th place in the world.
In numbers
100,000 runners globally, who ran in 12 different time zones raising € 4,200,000 entirely donated to the Wings for Life Foundation. In Italy there were more than 3,000.
On May 8 this year, still at the same time and on different fusors, Italian runners will leave from Milan with the goal of enduring as much as possible.
