It is no mystery that the new Garmin Forerunner 745 would be coming out. A lot of news had already been leaked over the past few weeks, and the effect had been nothing but increased curiosity about what the successor to one of the best-selling and most beloved devices of recent times, the Forerunner 735XT, would look like.
Expectations were also high because-while we knew it would be a kind of evolutionary link between Forerunner 245 and Forerunner 945-it was not known in what way it would be and, more importantly, with what functionality.
Now finally all these questions have been answered and the Forerunner 745 is exactly what was expected.
To simplify it as much as possible we can see it from two points of view: on the one hand we could say that it is an evolution for triathlon of the Forerunner 245 with some additional functionality. Or, changing the point of view, we could see it as a Forerunner 945 with a less powerful battery and without the maps.
Lots of extra features
At the presentation event, the U.S. brand unveiled many new features dedicated to triple discipline compared to the previous model. Some-such as the Run Track dedicated to track workouts-dedicated to running, or the Critical Swim Speed that lets the athlete know what swimming pace to keep both in the pool and in open water so as not to exceed the aerobic threshold. On the cycling side, new features include interaction with TACX or third-party rollers and the ability to control their endurance, power, incline, and customized workouts.
Most importantly, through performance analysis, the sportwatch can give you guidance and suggestions for carrying out the correct type of daily training.
The direction is clear: to go beyond the “usual” sportwatch to become a true training assistant.

Garmin HRM-Pro
: the product that, in my opinion, was missing. In fact, this heart rate monitor combines all the features of HRM-Tri, HRM-Run and HRM-Swim: it can be used both in open water and in the pool and provides, when running, all the advanced running dynamics.
But that’s not enough because, in addition to Garmin’s traditional ANT+ connectivity, the HRM-Pro also has the ability to connect with Bluetooth devices-a very useful feature for indoor workouts.
