It’s not a figure of speech: adidas took home two new records because they were run – physically – right at its headquarters in Herzogenaurach, Germany. The event was called adidas Adizero: Road to records and was a private multi-distance event that ran on a 2.5-kilometer loop within the adidas World of Sport campus.
Three distances: 5K, 10K and Half Marathon featuring all the leading and fittest athletes of the German brand. The ingredients for a record-breaking day were all there: a near-perfect temperature of 16 to 18 degrees, almost no wind, and pacers of the highest caliber. And indeed, there was no shortage of very impressive times.
In the women’s 10 km, Agnes Jebet Tirop set a new world record over the 10 km in 30’01”, literally a whisker away from breaking the 30-minute mark. Shortly after, in the women’s 5K, Ethiopian Senbere Teferi broke the world record with 14’29”.
Significant times were also recorded in all other distances with many athletes improving their personal bests and coming within a hair’s breadth of improving world records.
As you can easily tell from the name of the event, the competing athletes wore the latest creations from the ADIZERO COLLECTION, designed for speed, theADIZERO ADIOS PRO 2, and the unreleased, theADIZERO TAKUMI SEN 8, designed and built on the basis of Adios Pro but developed mainly for short and medium distance speed (5 and 10 km).
