Choosing the racing bike

  • 3 minute read

Listen to “S02E32: Choosing a racing bike” on Spreaker.Learning to ride a bicycle is one of the most exciting things we do as children-do you remember the day you made it? Already being able to balance seemed like a miracle, and then the first turn made without crushing you to the ground, remember it? I quite, although I would have to consult the Old Testament for details because the memories go back a few geological eras. The feeling of that excitement for the first really magical thing you learn to do remains, though.

Because riding a bike, being able to balance on two wheels, running faster than your legs can run is a very powerful experience that is not easily forgotten. And the great thing is that we carry it with us for life: you can’t forget how to ride a bike, even after so many years of not doing it. As soon as you get into the saddle and after a few moments of hesitation, your memory remembers everything, especially the excitement and enthusiasm.

If you have also taken up sports in the meantime, curiosity and the spirit of adventure very often lead you right there: to think that perhaps biking might be an interesting discipline to take up. After all, its positives are countless:

  • Allows you to train muscle groups that running doesn’t use or not completely
  • It is one of the prince sports of cross-training, that is, of that virtuous blending of different specialties that help you train more fully and deeply
  • By loading your legs less, it is a sport you can play even as an injured person, of course if the part of your body affected by the injury is not functional for pedaling
  • It makes you live for many hours in a stupendous aesthetic condition because you can see so many different places and scenery by pedaling, much more than you can appreciate by running.

Come scegliere la bici da corsa

Shall we try?

If you’ve decided that biking is the next sport you want to try you need–a bike. But even before her you need guidance on how to choose her. You need to ask yourself some very simple questions:

  • Where will you use it? Road? Dirt?
  • How will you use it? Training? For outings or long trips? To go to work?
  • How much do you want to spend?
  • Where to buy it and how to make it “your bike”?

As always when starting something new, it is important to do it step by step: buying as your first bike a 15,000 euro monster (yes, they can even cost that much) is useless: you don’t have the proper preparation to appreciate and value it, and you risk just wasting money. We often remember that it is not the instrument that makes the athlete but it is the athlete who enhances the instrument. Just as a Ferrari in the hands of someone who does not know how to drive it is just a more nervous and ungovernable car than a hatchback, so it is with the bicycle. Get there in stages and buy inexpensive ones and then buy more and more high-tech, high-performance ones, bit by bit. The beauty of the bike is that it also has a second-hand market that you can tap into to buy or even sell.

Shall we go pedaling?

Have you sent your Lovers Mail yet?

In recent weeks we launched the second season of Lovers Mail. Participate and tell your story in our Outlaw podcast-just write it down and send it to info@runlovers.it.
It is so easy and once a month we will collect the best ones and read and comment on them during a special episode. We are not interested in the chronicles of the races but in the flow of thoughts and reflections that accompany us when, one step after another, we run.
What are you waiting for to send it to us?
