When things are made with care and passion they always have stories to tell. PUMA’s newest running line, for example, encompasses many stories, one for each shoe model: each has different characteristics, is suitable for different types of training, and has peculiarities.
The story of the 2021 running PUMAs is one of a return to speed, which, by the way, has always featured it on the feet of the fastest athletes and female runners in history, from Abebe Bikila, Bill Rogers and Sabrina Mockenhaubt to Usain Bolt.
Then there are the stories of individual models, such as that of the
MAGNIFY NITRO
.
More, to run longer
Le
PUMA MAGNIFY NITRO
make things clear right off the bat: starting with their high profile and the amount of NITRO compound (a new midsole material that is created from EVA infused with nitrogen gas-nitrogen, in fact-through an innovative process that gives the shoe the three benefits we all seek: responsiveness, cushioning, and lightness) that the midsole is made of, their nature is to keep you running for a long, long time.
This is actually the PUMA model with more NITRO in the upper midsole and more PROFOAM LITE in the lower midsole, in direct contact with the PUMAGRIP tread. The presence of PROFOAM LITE serves to make them even more comfortable and durable while the PUMAGRIP tread once again proves to be one of the safest and most grippy on asphalt. And all this is just to talk about the “sole system” alone, which, in this case, is the one that provides maximum cushioning and comfort while still being very light in weight.

In this we are mainly talking about “Magnify” shoes, meaning that they amplify the presence of material. And at this point another story needs to be told, which is more generally about the evolution of the running shoe over the past 10 years. You only have to get to the upper to know what I’m talking about: that of the MAGNIFY NITRO is engineered in a way that promotes breathability, has no spurs or supports, and is colored with the livery of the shoes PUMA athletes will wear at the Tokyo Olympics, made of thin multicolored parallel strands woven onto a white base.
The only stiffer point is the heel but for the sole purpose of holding the foot firmer. The rest is mesh and that’s it, because that’s all you need, since comfort and stability are provided by the midsole/sole system alone. And that is there and it is efficient and light.
As we have often said, the quality of a running shoe is higher the better the balance of lightness, responsiveness and cushioning. A shoe can be super light but uncomfortable, or super comfortable but heavy and unresponsive.
MAGNIFY NITROs are lightweight, comfortable and have a good amount of responsiveness. One cannot expect from them the dryness of other models more devoted to speed, but the story I want to write with you is one of distance, not so much or not only of speed.
To the feet
That there is “a lot of stuff” underneath you can tell right away: once you put them on, you feel taller (because you are) but not any more unstable: the footprint of the MAGNIFY NITROs is just wide enough to impart a feeling of stability that lingers throughout the run. And it’s when they spin that the magic happens: such shoes make people want to run more and more because they don’t fatigue running and are very comfortable. That’s why they’re ideal for long runs, less so for fast workouts-their support is even and all along the sole of the foot, and the result is that you don’t get fatigued and can keep grinding road after road.

Comfort extends to the entire shoe, including the upper: the tongue and collar are very well padded so as to ward off ankle irritation or rubbing, and the whole is solid and capable of giving a great sense of reliability. The only thing to note is that these are somewhat warm shoes, but it is also true that you notice if you wear them all day while during a workout – even in summer – they do not bother at all.
If you feel like going a long way in comfort and with great protection, the
PUMA MAGNIFY NITRO
have a story to tell you.
