Those beautiful white shoes that are now no more

Needlessto pretend otherwise: we have all done the madness of buying a more or less total white shoe. Beautiful, ethereal, icy, pure. At least for the first 15 minutes.

Then there are those who are crazier than others … to say, I bought a white trail running shoe, but it was so beautiful that I couldn’t resist: then it became one of my favorite shoes also because of its technical features, but I admit that I would have taken it anyway. When you fall in love, that’s how it works.
The baptism of fire made her gray, very gray. Then a mud race decreed the transition to the brown level. Finally, I simply stopped being convinced that I had a pair of white shoes (but with great sadness and a pang of shame in my heart, it must be said). I’m not so sure I’ve learned my lesson, since I tried these last week: but at least they weren’t mine, here.

A few months ago, during my usual dickish hard work researching on Instagram, I discovered Shoe Shame. Before I decided it was at least worth trying it out, I had already received the purchase confirmation email.

I chose the.
Lose the dirt Kit
: 150ml cleaning gel and a double-sided brush, all in a package so neat it’s worthy of an iPhone.

How does it work?

  1. Remove the strings
  2. Brush the shoe, dry
  3. Pour a tiny bit of gel on the brush and moisten it in cold water
  4. Brush the entire shoe, start with the upper and close with the sole
  5. Remove foam residue with a dry (clean!) cloth.
  6. Let it air dry
  7. Enjoy

Now. If you clean the sneakers you went tubing with downtown, rest assured they will be as good as new. If you clean your running shoe in it that has seen a few puddles and a good dose of city smog, ditto as above. If, on the other hand–like me–you’re cleaning those trail shoes you ravaged in the mud and never even tried to wash, well.

You know what? You will be bloody surprised.

Now that I have my (almost) white shoes back, I feel ready to repeat my mistake, even with a certain ill-concealed pride.
