Summer isat its peak, and that basically means two things for those of us who spend part of our free time running: that
we have to live with the heat
and that
fall races are approaching
.
While for the first point we have seen on several occasions how it is possible to take advantage of high temperatures in a positive way and how we can bring the heat on our side, for the second there are a myriad of variables to consider in order for things to go well. Whether it’s long-distance races or medium- or short-distance races, it’s possible to focus on certain aspects and create a mental scheme that can accompany us step – by – step (it’s really the case).
Here is a small list of motivational points to save for race day.
- You came to the starting line after months of training and you know your worth. Do not underestimate yourself or overestimate yourself. You are ready to do the race you have been training for.
- Remember the planning of the efforts to be made for the various sections of the race. If you planned to maintain a certain pace for the first half, even if you feel like you’re okay and would like to run harder, try to maintain it. Regarding point 1, you have trained yourself to do the race as planned, stay focused and keep point 3 in mind for good.
- Keep your commitment to give 100 percent focused. Not 98% but not 102% either.
If you have a man
between
(and if you don’t have one, perhaps it may be helpful to have it) repeat it at every kilometer (or whatever intermediate distance is useful to you).- Don’t be demoralized if even though you are mentally rethinking and following all the previous points, things are not going as hoped. Put a plan B in place and keep in mind that there is rarely a perfect day; you can only try to give as much as you can and take all the good things from the experience you are having.
An extra point that goes beyond goal achievement and athletic performance:
you’re running, you ‘re doing what you enjoy and what you’ve spent so much free time on. It is you and your thoughts, your tiredness, your happiness.
Why not enjoy it to the fullest?
