Smallinitial disclaimer: Instinct is one of my favorite Garmin products. You want for its simplicity, for its robustness, for its essential functionality; in short, the reasons are many and can be summed up by saying that there is everything a sportwatch needs to do its job and nothing more.
The new version of Garmin Instinct does not betray this philosophy and takes it to the next level. Indeed, its most distinguishing feature remains: the monochrome display (come to think of it, what good is a color display in a sportwatch?). But it comes with new features that allow you to train with almost any metric available in the Garmin world. In fact, apart from the new Stamina feature-introduced in the Fenix 7 unveiled in January-you find all the advanced dynamics for running-in all its variations. Plus cycling, mountain biking, swimming (including open water). But also all the possible outdoor activities we could engage in. Yes, because-as you can tell from its “rugged” appearance-the outdoors is its true calling.
Functionality, I said. So training status, training effect, VO2max, recovery time, recommended workouts, acclimatization. I mean, we understand each other. There is everything we need to train and achieve our goals. And more.
Unlimited duration
Yes, you read it right. In fact, Garmin claims that in smartwatch mode and wearing it all day (3 hours a day outdoors in 50,000 lux light conditions), thesolar-charged version of theInstinct 2 has UNLIMITED DURATION.
And even in other conditions, the new Garmin Instinct 2 has a battery that virtually never lets you down. Again the Solar version, in GPS mode, has a duration ranging from 48 to 370 hours (depending on the settings) while, in “GPS Expedition” mode, we find those two words we love so much: “unlimited duration.”
Price, sizes and variants
Garmin Instinct 2, like its predecessor has some variants dedicated to particular uses (such as surfing and tactical, for example) but, as of this new version, the sportwatch is available in two different sizes: Instinct 2S with a 40mm case and Instinct 2 with a 45mm case. It will also be possible to purchase it in standard or Solar version.
The Garmin Instinct 2s are already on sale with prices starting at 349.99 euros for the standard version, rising to 449.99 euros for the Solar version and reaching 499.99 euros for the Solar Surf and Solar Tactical models.
