The race for maximum cushioning shows no signs of stopping, and Nike has decided to push the accelerator even further by splitting one of its most popular families: the Vomero. The stated goal is to make running easier on the body through superior comfort and impact protection. That’s why the Vomero is splitting into two distinct models: the Vomero Premium and the Vomero Plus.
Vomero Premium: extreme cushioning
The Premium version is the ultimate expression of Nike’s research in cushioning. Designed to replicate the feeling of running on an anti-gravity treadmill, the Vomero Premium is engineered to significantly reduce impact and speed up recovery times.
To achieve this, it combines ZoomX foam with visible Air Zoom units in the heel and forefoot, all housed within a structure boasting a 55 mm heel height—certainly a new milestone (or limit) in terms of stack height.
Who is it for? Primarily for elite marathoners looking for a single shoe to handle high mileage and recover faster. It’s no coincidence that it has been used by athletes like Faith Kipyegon during her record-breaking preparations.
Vomero Plus: everyday comfort
The Vomero Plus represents the most direct evolution of the much-loved Vomero 18. The midsole is made entirely of ZoomX foam and offers an even softer, lighter, and more responsive running experience than the previous model. The heel height is 45 mm, 4 mm more than the Invincible 3.
Who is it for? For those who want to increase their mileage without stressing the body or who are looking for a comfortable model for recovery runs. The rocker geometry (the “boat-like” profile that enhances the curve for a smoother toe-off) and a wider platform aim to provide cushioning without compromising stability.
A simplified lineup
The Vomero Premium and Vomero Plus are part of Nike’s strategy to simplify its offerings, organizing them into three key categories based on cushioning:
- Vomero: represents the new era of maximum comfort.
- Structure: offers supportive cushioning for a stable ride.
- Pegasus: provides responsive cushioning for consistent energy return.
This division of the lineup simplifies the selection process and makes it easier to find the right fit.
The Nike Vomero Plus will be available from August 7, while the Vomero Premium will arrive on October 2 at select retailers and globally on October 16.
