Just a couple of weeks ago, Harry Styles’ participation in the Tokyo Marathon made headlines, but this time, it’s the turn of a member of an iconic band for pop-punk fans of the ’90s. Not the frontman, but a musician, specifically, the drummer of Blink-182, Travis Barker, ran the Big5 5k held alongside the weekend of Los Angeles Marathon.
A story like many
His story is common to many: a traumatic event, which doctors said would prevent him from walking or playing drums the same way again, sparked in him a desire to prove everyone wrong, including himself. This is how he began to dedicate himself to short daily walks. Over time, with training, the walk turned into running. Running gave him strange, contrasting sensations: it made him feel calm at first, then gave him an incredible rush of adrenaline. In other words, it made him feel alive. He liked running, and since he started, he hasn’t stopped. He doesn’t even skip it when he’s on tour, before a concert.
Run Travis Run
He discovered that running made him feel good, but what made him feel even better was the community of people around this sport: people from different backgrounds, origins, and ages, all united by a common denominator: running. So, in 2022, Barker launched the Run Travis Run movement (which immediately recalls the famous phrase “Run Forrest Run”). His goal was to motivate as many people as possible through his message to get moving.
“I want to motivate people to get outside, walk or run for a few hours, make decisions and create habits that benefit their well-being.”
A “small thing” that is certainly noteworthy, bravo Travis!
