What does training really mean?

  • 3 minute read

  • Training is an intentional process aimed at improving the body, mind, and resilience, going beyond mere physical activity.
  • Achieving specific goals requires well-structured strategies and continuous progression to challenge your limits and constantly grow.
  • Recovery plays a crucial role, turning efforts into results through rest, nutrition and adaptation.

Have you ever wondered what training truly means? Take a moment to reflect. Whether you go to the gym, run, or practice yoga, these are excellent habits for staying active. However, this is not what we mean by “training,” at least not in its deeper sense.

Training is a commitment, a goal-driven journey that you work toward daily, bringing you closer to a precise destination. It’s a tool to unlock your potential and surpass your limits, whether it’s achieving a personal record or simply becoming a stronger, healthier version of yourself. Training means preparing to give your very best.

Training is more than just physical exercise

Unlike a casual physical activity, training is a process designed to improve physical performance, endurance, and overall fitness. It is a well-structured plan consisting of exercises, techniques, and strategies tailored to achieve specific goals, such as excelling in a sport, preventing injury, or becoming stronger to be able to cope better with daily life. But there is more. Training is also an inner journey. It’s about challenging yourself and discovering what you’re truly capable of. It pushes you to explore your limits and redefine what you thought was possible. How fast could you run if you gave it your all? What mountains, literal or metaphorical, could you climb with focused preparation?

Training begins with a goal

Every training journey starts with a goal. Visualize who you want to become, where you want to go, and what you want to achieve. Choose a goal that ignites a spark within you. From there, your journey begins. It demands consistency, patience, and dedication, but the process will transform you physically, mentally, and emotionally.

The five pillars of success

If you’re ready to start a training journey, stay focused and motivated by following these five key principles.

1. Goal-oriented training

Dream big and break your dream down into smaller, more concrete goals. Avoid vague intentions such as “getting stronger” and aim for specific goals, such as completing your first marathon or being able to do a certain number of burpees. Each training session should be geared toward the ultimate goal.

2. Strategic structure

Training requires a well-defined plan. Like an architect plans a building, organize your path in stages that connect and reinforce each other: growth, strength, power, and recovery. A solid foundation will enable you to meet any challenge.

3. Continuous progression

The body reacts when stimulated, but it quickly gets used to the routine. Progress does not just mean lifting heavier weights or running faster, but varying the stimuli, such as intensity, techniques, and movements. Each small improvement will lead to a significant transformation over time.

4. Systematic monitoring

Keep track of your progress. Don’t just mark numerical sets, such as weights or times, but also keep track of all the other indicators: sensations, ease of recovery, and general well-being. A training diary can become the story of your evolution.

5. Recovery and adaptation

Growth continues during recovery. Get enough sleep, maintain a balanced diet, and dedicate time to active recovery. Rest isn’t wasted time: it’s when your body turns effort into strength.

Embrace the holistic approach

By adopting this holistic perspective, which harmoniously integrates each of the five pillars into your training program without focusing on a single aspect, you’ll unlock your true potential and face any challenge with confidence and determination.
