These days we have to stay home but no one and nothing can forbid us from dreaming: this installment of Fuorisoglia takes you to California, where Paolo Bergamo lives. Paolo is first and foremost a friend, then an Italian engineer and a top-level executive at Salesforce, one of the international software giants. So what does it have to do with us? He is in it for the friendship and because running has become a constant companion in his weekly routine over the years. He understands it as an alternative form of meditation that allows him to avoid burning out his brain by exhausting it in a healthy way: during the week he has to make decisions for 12 to 14 hours a day, and on the weekend he then has to do a mental reset and shut out all background noise and distractions, exhausting himself running. The mountains behind Santa Monica provide the ideal habitat for him to escape his work routine, causing him to find a healthy solitude.
It is curious but not even that curious that those who work to create software products to connect and bring people together are only able to regenerate their minds in the solitude and silence of nature.
But told like this, Paul may sound like some kind of ascetic who divides his life between a super-busy job and weekends eating roots and berries on the California steppe (the world-famous California steppe!): no, Paul is very down-to-earth and very practical in understanding running as a natural remedy for finding mental and inner balance.
And then we talk about California, a dream for so many! Where does one run in California? On the coast or in the mountains? And is everyone in California really beautiful, including Paul? Listen and find out ;)
