Today is a good day to start again

  • 2 minute read

In the almost total uncertainty of this period, we were more or less all trying to get back to doing the things we like to do, such as participating in competitions. Rather than to compete, in my case at least, it was a desire related to being able to meet up with friends again and run together. If it seemed a feasible thing until a few weeks ago, with the resumption of competitions (few in number and not always with participation as in previous editions), it is pure utopia to think that it is possible for a few more events to be confirmed for this year (and I fear it will be so until the middle of next), at least in Italy. I was among those who hoped it would be possible to run a race again by the end of the year, and I had set out to lose the extra pounds gained during the period of enforced lockout (mostly from work, which is the thing that personally weighed the most on my body as I continued to run on the Tapis-no, it’s not the same
but not that bad either

) and to get a few dozen miles back in the legs at a pace suitable for running at least a Half Marathon under an hour and thirty. It wasn’t going badly, I started to do medium distances at a steady pace again and also resumed with repeats and stretches, but let’s face it, now that it is known for sure that no race will be run the motivation has become very erratic, and although I am quite happy with the results so far I certainly cannot say that I have succeeded one hundred percent in my endeavor.

Therefore, to keep myself focused and concentrated, I thought I would sit down at the PC and arrange a training calendar for an imaginary race, a Half Marathon, and set it for mid-December, two-thirds of the way through actually, on Sunday the 20th. By that time there would be some good races in Sardinia, and that’s the period when my eating plan theoretically indicates a return to the

ideal weight for running

.

Having a goal, even though there is no real race or someone to run it with, is already an inspiring thing, and I have decided to add some core stability and muscle strengthening workouts to the plan for the half, so I will again plow through the sheets proposed by our Elisa, trying this time to maintain a little more consistency, lost after the restriction period.

I am ready to (re)go, again. Because it’s always a good day to .

starting something new
