Behind a great performance is great preparation. You know about running, but so does Taylor Swift, who, in order to arrive physically ready to support stage after stage of the world tour that put her on the Guinness World Record, has followed a training plan that is as unusual as it is intense.
Singing running (or running singing)
In order to be able to sing and dance on stage for more than three hours for multiple nights in the span of a single week, Taylor had to engage in equally intense training sessions. She said during an interview that she prepared herself by running every day on the treadmill singing aloud all the songs in the set list. Taylor sang while running, while we mere mortals could barely hold a conversation. But that is not all. Taylor was keen to point out that the pace of the ride intensified on the notes of the more rhythmic and faster songs, while it decreased for the more melodic and slower songs.
Cross training also for Swift
His athletic preparation for the tour included not only singing and running sessions but also gym sessions to work on strength. And since learning and memorizing choreography was not her strong point, she took dance classes for three months.
Arriving physically ready to support the entire show without difficulty was a very important goal for the singer, if not essential. Being able to move and sing without going into breathlessness and being able to rely on enough energy to get to the end of the show without difficulty would have freed her to enjoy the experience and interact more with the fans, having fun with them.
Marathon runner in the soul
In a way, Taylor has the soul of a marathon runner: she knows what it means and does not back down in the face of fatigue. She trains with a clear purpose and goal in mind, putting her whole self into the journey that will lead her to the big day, and once it comes she will enjoy the moment, knowing that she has done everything she could to be proud of herself!
