Meditating after training helps counteract stress, promoting a quick return to calm.
-
Meditation facilitates physical and mental recovery, reducing posttraining stress and inflammation.
-
Practicing post-workout meditation prolongs the feeling of well-being, reducing anxiety and improving concentration.
It willonly take a handful of minutes to get started and become familiar with the practice. Just strides the training session by a few minutes, without putting it off for another time and having to do additional jumping jacks to find extra time to devote to yourself. A two-for-one that will allow you to make the most of your time, regardless of the benefits you can gain from post-workout meditation.
Incorporating a new activity to an already well-established habit will facilitate its consolidation, until it becomes a new habit within one’s daily routine.
Think of it this way
If you practice yoga or have happened to attend a class you will surely have experienced shavasana at the end of the class. This is the time when you stop and, from a supine position, close your eyes, relax your muscles and let go of your thoughts. In fact, it is a kind of meditation guided by the teacher’s words, to the notes of a musical background that recalls the sounds of nature.
Have no expectations
Find a quiet corner to lie down in and let go, physically and mentally. And where do I find a quiet corner at home with cars honking under the house or at the gym, known for not being the quietest place in the world? This would be the ideal condition in which to meditate, but not the only one in which to do so. Maybe it will be more difficult if you are surrounded by factors that can distract you, but it will not be impossible. Start without carrying expectations so you don’t risk disillusionment. Meditation is practiced in the present time, in the here and now. Don’t try to predict how you will feel later and focus instead on how you feel in the present moment as you are devoting time to yourself and meditation in your post-workout.
3 benefits
Do you need extra motivation to convince you to give yourself a chance? I am going to give you as many as three.
- Helps counter post-workout stress
Whatever workout it is, whether you have been running or have been in the gym lifting a few pounds of cast iron, your body will accumulate stress. Meditating post-workout will help you regain balance and relax your body. Heart rate and blood pressure will return faster to the resting condition.
- Helps in recovery
Meditating helps to bring the body back to a state of calm, so consequently it promotes recovery. Meditation can greatly help in the overall recovery process, both physical and mental. It achieves this by reducing stress levels and calming the state of inflammation, which generally manifests itself in the form of stiffness and muscle aches that you have subjected your body to during training.
- Prolonged feeling of well-being
After high-impact activities, slowing down, both the movement of your body and the movement of your thoughts, helps to reduce anxiety and return to a state of calmness that helps you find better focus for work or better sleep, depending on the time of day when you are exercising and following up with meditation.
